Why do angels have wings?

It is widely believed that angels have wings to enable them to fly. This may be true, but I believe their wings also have another purpose: protection. Specifically, protection from the overwhelming radiance of God.

As is written in scripture, naked exposure to the radiance of God can be extremely destructive:

As wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. (Psalm 68:2 KJV)

The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. (Psalm 97:5 KJV)

Even the angels need to be shielded from this radiance, lest it consume them as well. I believe therefore that their wings are more like the “wings” of a bat, which that creature wraps around itself for protection in sleep:

However, we know that Adam was created by God Himself, and was in direct physical contact with God without being so consumed:

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7 KJV)

Satan was jealous of God’s love of Adam, so he hatched a plot to bring us down. When Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil, they were transformed into beings that could no longer stand naked before God:

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. (Genesis 3:8 KJV)

Their “shame” at being “naked” was actually a physical transformation following which the radiance of God was harmful to them in a manner similar to what the lesser angels experience. That was why they hid from the presence of the Lord God and made aprons for themselves, to create the same protection from that radiance which "wings" afford to the angels.

Satan was present when we were created. He knows much about us, whereas we know very little about him. Along with the recent help of America, he has been experimenting on us for the past six thousand years. Why? To find out what it was about us that allowed us to stand in God’s presence without being consumed. That’s information which (along with possession of the key to the bottomless pit) would be crucial to the success of his rebellion. (Not surprisingly, the so-called Human Genome Project was funded by the Department of Energy, the same entity that controls the plutonium pits in Amarillo near the entrance to the Garden of Eden.)

We have invited Satan into our homes; we have turned our children over to him. And by allowing him to dwell among us, study us at his leisure, and even experiment on our own children, who knows what he may have discovered about us that we don’t even know ourselves?

Whatever the case, it’s unlikely he will use such knowledge for our benefit.
