The Mighty Wurlitzer Plays On

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
-Abraham Lincoln

It is possible to fool all the people all the time -- when government and press cooperate.

-George Seldes

Unfortunately, we have reached that point. If you'd like to know how we got there, please start by reading Gary Webb's essay "The Mighty Wurlitzer Plays On":

By the way, the term "The Mighty Wurlitzer" refers to the CIA's control of public perception in the US. Ironically, a similar image had been on the cover of the issue of Time Magazine which announced that Adolf Hitler had been named as Man of the Year for 1938. As we now know, Hitler was a surveillance pipsqueak compared to the NSA and other spy agencies of the USA.

Gary Webb died for our sins. And many of you apparently want Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, and Edward Snowden to join him. It turns out that Ward Churchill was right after all: what good little Nazis you have become.
