Truth, "Faith", and 9/11

Excellent essay by Professor John Cobb:

It explains the concept of "nationalist faith" and shows how such "faith" is blinding us to the truth.

And this begs the question, "Is 'nationalist faith' the 'strong delusion' mentioned in this Biblical passage?"

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 KJV

Within the context of Professor Cobb's essay, I would say the answer to that question is "yes".

And if that be so, then our "patriotism" is indeed from God, but He gave us this to BLIND us ... NOT to enlighten us.

And what would America do with the truth anyway? Don't we worship an idol, the so-called Statue of Liberty, whose formal name is "La Liberté éclairant le monde (Liberty enlightening the world)"?

That's the only enlightenment WE want.
