Pope Francis has attacked the global economic system which worships the god of money:

I think we're past due for some liberation theology, and this is the pope who can lead the charge. Churches should NOT continue to support a political/economic system which regards people as a commodity (best case) or as refuse (worst case).
Does G-d want the one percent to have everything and the 99 percent to have nothing? I don't think so.
