What's The Worst That Can Happen ???

John Kerry, the idiot masquerading as our Secretary of State, has asked "if we're wrong on climate change, what's the worst that can happen?" In a commencement speech at Boston College, he said this:

If we make the necessary efforts to address this challenge – and supposing I’m wrong or scientists are wrong, 97 percent of them all wrong – supposing they are, what’s the worst that can happen? We put millions of people to work transitioning our energy, creating new and renewable and alternative; we make life healthier because we have less particulates in the air and cleaner air and more health; we give ourselves greater security through greater energy independence – that’s the downside. This is not a matter of politics or partisanship; it’s a matter of science and stewardship. And it’s not a matter of capacity; it’s a matter of willpower.

First, to address some of his ridiculous claims:

  • No one in the administration of Obama ad-Dajjal has or will "put millions of people to work". That's a sick joke.
  • They have, however, squandered millions if not billions of dollars in failed schemes to create new, renewable, and alternative energy sources.
  • The EPA's efforts may reduce airborne particulates, but considering the added pollution associated with things like increasing battery manufacture it's not clear that in the balance we'll be any healthier when they are done.

And to address his question "what's the worst that can happen?", here is a partial list:

  • Millions more people will be put out of work as new technologies replace the old.
  • Our already fragile electric grid will be overburdened and may fail, plunging large swaths of the nation into rolling blackouts.
  • If we're foolish enough to replace existing coal plants with nuclear power plants, we'll be creating more nuclear waste with nowhere to put it (Yucca Mountain is defunct and WIPP is leaking) and breeding plutonium which will be a potential terrorist threat for the rest of all time.
  • If we're foolish enough to inject CO2 into the ground on an industrial scale, that CO2 will eventually (and maybe soon) come back out of the ground and go into the atmosphere anyway.
  • And by coercively taking over the US economy through ill-considered regulation, we risk destroying not only the economy but also the very concept of free enterprise itself.

Yes, we may indeed see a "triumph of the will", but we all know how that turned out last time it was tried.

Update: For an example of what happens when government gets involved in "environmental activism", read this report:
