I have never read Eduardo Galeano's book The Open Veins of Latin America, but I have read his book Upside Down; and I am totally in agreement with what he wrote in that book.
But according to this essay, Galeano has now disavowed The Open Veins:

From what I have heard, this must be a literary decision rather than one based upon a reassessment of the facts. How could anyone possibly believe that the United States has not been plundering Latin America?
