It costs $10,000 per pound to put an object into earth orbit. You can read about it here:

That means it would cost most of us over $2 million each just to get into earth orbit, and more to sustain us there and/or send us to another planet.
Obviously, we're not going anywhere any time soon.
The 0.01%, however, can afford to go into space. Maybe this is why they are so "greedy" - they need that great wealth so they can escape the mess humanity has created here before it's too late.
Of course, considering their moral and spiritual immaturity they're likely to repeat the process anywhere they go; i.e., turn a pristine paradise into an unlivable toxic waste dump before moving on.
