Thought For The Day - 12/16/2017

I’m excited to say we live in one of the most extraordinary times in human history. The old way of doing things in virtually every aspect of human civilization has either broken down, or is breaking down as I write this. Communications, media, finance, money itself, etc. The list is seemingly endless, and education is no exception. In fact, I think education is an example of extremely low-hanging fruit and will be disrupted and decentralized in unimaginable ways in the years ahead.

In the decades to come, the people who will increasingly shape our world probably won’t have a college degree at all - and that’s probably a good thing.
Michael Krieger

I shudder at the thought.

Please take a look at these "insanely successful" college dropouts:

Yes they have been "successful", but in general that success has come from the disruption of existing businesses and ways of life. And the main result of that disruption has been two things:

  • wealth for the disruptor and his coterie; and
  • poverty for everyone else.

I'm all for positive change. But when overwhelming changes cause widespread unemployment, poverty, hunger, homelessness, and sickness ... it's time to rethink what the hell is going on.

We're subjecting the bulk of humanity to the same pressures which led to the extinction of multiple species on our planet. Is that what we want? I doubt it.

But it seems to be what people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg want. And lately they've been getting what THEY want, regardless of what WE want.

Oppressed peoples have the right to rise up against their oppressors. Isn't that what the Declaration of Independence says?
